The key to a good investment is...

...The Property Key. Investment mogul and Director of The Green Zero, William Robinson approached Suburbia to help position, develop the name, logo and strapline. The Property Key is a new property investment business based in Cheshire which buys and sells properties quickly and easily. From inception to completion, Suburbia developed the logo over a series of structured informative consultations. The designer of the motif said ‘Blue was used in the logo because it is calming. It can be strong and secure or light and trustworthy. One of the key messages when developing the logo was Trust and Transparency. Most people identify with some shade of the color blue. During the creative problem solving process we discovered that stacking the name created a key shape which was perfect for the communication of the brand.’ Suburbia rolled out the logo in October 2011 across a website, business cards, brochure and letterheads.

Suburbia Design shows its metal at the Royal Mint

Award-winning design agency Suburbia Design and Communications has proved its metal working on an Olympic project to help the next generation be the best they can be.

The North West graphic design and publishing firm is spear-heading the creative work for a ground-breaking charity founded by Olympic gold medallist Dr David Hemery CBE.

The 21st Century Legacy, Be the Best You Can Be! Programme sees Olympians head into schools aiming to inspire, engage and empower students to achieve their dreams.

Suburbia created the design for the medallions that were struck by the Royal Mint to celebrate the achievement of young people participating in the project.

Thomas Gagen, lead creative at Suburbia travelled to the Royal Mint site in South Wales to see his medallion design minted.

He said: “Working with 21st Century Legacy and the Royal Mint has been a privilege for Suburbia. It was particularly rewarding to go to the Royal Mint to see the medallions being struck, and to meet some of the youngsters who have benefitted from this amazing project.”

The agency, headed by Thomas and partner Julie Wrench, was first approached by the charity to create a distinctive branding.

The logo and starburst Suburbia created for 21st Century Legacy impressed the charity so much it commissioned the agency to complete a number of creative projects including work books, magazines, leaflets, promotional materials and presentation packs for those taking part in the programme.

Seeing the design in metal was a first for the experienced, creative design company, who work on a number of well-known magazines, alongside creating logos, brochures and marketing materials.

Suburbia came up with the initial design for the medallion and a team at the Royal Mint translated that into a three dimensional model.

Thomas said: “From creating the initial starburst and branding, it was quite a moment for me to hold the medallion in my hands. I hope that the Be the Best You Can Be! Programme inspires young people to achieve their dreams; maybe it will even be the first medallion of achievement held by future David Hemerys.”

The 21st Century, Be the Best You Can Be! Programme has been developed to help young people to discover the unique potential within themselves and to pursue and fulfil their dreams. The Royal Mint supported the charity to make the achiever’s medallions.

The project is the brainchild of Dr Hemery, who came up with the concept after being asked to help deliver a bid promise that the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games would be an inspiration to the youth of Britain and the rest of the world.

Schools taking part are visited by an Olympian, Paralympian or other high achiever. This is followed by themes integrated into the curriculum and a celebration event where children receive the medallions designed by Suburbia.

Thinking OUTSIDE THE (light) BOX!

In August 2011, Suburbia were commissioned by a North Wales based hotel to design, manufacture and install a new type of sign to promote their hotel. Owners from Lauriston Court in Llandudno had become frustrated by other agencies and sign writers who were asked to quote on the product but never delivered. The sign consisted of a 5mm thick semi-transparent face which lights up from underneath using the latest 3mm thin LED strip technology. The bespoke product features an LCD screen in the middle of the sign which displays, films, images and information about the hotel. It’s all conveniently controlled by remote control. The whole package is no more than 6 inches deep! Suburbia recognised the client’s challenges and built the sign around their exact needs. The biggest challenge was to get the sign lit up in extreme sunlight and fit inside their current sign enclosure. (Dimensions: 1230mm x 540mm x 150mm deep)

Disclosure Services' commissions Suburbia for a re-brand and overhaul of their marketing material.

Disclosure Services is an umbrella body of the Criminal Record Bureau. Trading since July 2002, it enables a broad range of clients to make informed recruitment decisions to fulfil their regulatory and compliance requirements.

Caroline Clark, one of the directors at Disclosure Services said, 'we love Suburbia's use of intelligent and sensitive design solutions. We like the way they can stick to a brief and deliver precisely what we are after'.

Suburbia is currently working very closely with Caroline on developing the new logotype. Thomas Gagen from Suburbia said, 'Caroline is very particular in what she is after for the new logotype. We simply were not getting the results we all wanted using our current software, so in the end we drafted in Studio Max with a bit of Photoshop to create the logo.'
